'Westcroft B&B', Kingsand, Cornwall, England.
Set just steps from the pretty beach in this sleepy corner of Cornwall, Westcroft B&B provides the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Winter or summer, a break at this historic former Georgian coaching in near the waters edge, is probably just as rejuvenating as two days of pampering at a spa but much more romantic thanks to the endless opportunities for bracing coastal walks, ambling amongst the picturesque traffic-free village streets, stumbling upon atmospheric pubs and, best of all, enjoying rest, relaxation, plus delicious organic breakfasts in stylish surroundings.
Formerly a 17th Century coaching inn, the Westcroft has been sensitively converted into a boutique B&B with charming eclectic interiors. Grand romantic sleigh and four-poster beds are blended with contemporary leather sofas and stainless steel lamps, along with original artwork of ranging from traditional landscapes to brooding abstracts. Without doubt, the most coveted room in the house is the Clock Tower Suite set in the eaves of the house it boasts a decadent bathroom with romantic claw foot bath, recliner seating and under floor lighting - perfect for bathing a deux! Breakfasts cater for all tastes and focus on fresh, organic local produce and candlelit dinners can be arranged on request. Other extras include therapeutic and reflexology massage sessions, which can be pre-booked in the comfort of you own room and babysitting. No paragraph on 'special features' would be complete without mentioning the fabulous sea views from many of the rooms and proximity to the pretty sand an shingle beach, just 20 steps away!
Kingsand is just 10miles from Plymouth via passenger or car ferry across The
Tamar and transport is available on request from the ferries to Westcroft for those arriving on foot (fast trains from Paddington take just 3 hours). There's little need for a car. The beach is a few steps away, as is the South West Coastal Path, and the nearest pub is just 100 metres from the Westcroft. The village itself is very picturesque. Its pastel coloured houses lining steep winding streets give it the feel of a chic Mediterranean resort and hide a few pretty shops and cosy pubs. Moran's deli is well worth a visit for gourmet picnic supplies. The owners of the B&B also run the neighbouring art gallery which sells a lovely collection of interiors accessories and jewellery, along with its ever changing collection of art inspired by local landscapes. A mile or so the other side of the peninsula is England's longest beach, Whitsand Bay, which is best enjoyed from a table at the Michelin Guide listed 'The View'. Inside you'll find a stylish contemporary bistro with a great menu and wine list that has earned it much praise. Across the water, Plymouth's Barbican area is awash with bars, restaurants and independent boutiques, probably the best of which are the acclaimed Tanners Restaurant and Interior Heaven.
